The Ojai Economy Group Mission Statement

Core Group • Advisory Board

The Ojai Economy Group is a group of private citizens who want to create, support and facilitate a supplemental economy for the Ojai Valley that:

• rests on principles of good will, trust, and cooperation
• encourages an economy of mutual support and nourishment
• addresses some of the essential economic needs of all residents that are not currently being met
• encourages local commerce and local businesses including social services, education, the arts, environmental efforts, and spiritual centers.

The current economic crisis is only one of several indices that portend a major change, a paradigm shift, a cultural transition in how we live on this planet. The increased awareness of the underlying issues offers an opportunity to create a supplemental local economy that is more compassionate, resilient, and sustainable.

The Ojai Economy Group envisions new levels of thinking, creativity and innovation while supporting and expanding our existing local economy. Its immediate goals include an annual conference beginning in 2009, and a local currency to encourage and support local business and decentralized banking.
